Seeds Of Life, Japan
“Water from France, people drink it in Japan. WHY?”
How to start to describe John Moore? The former president of Patagonia Japan is a social entrepreneur, a permaculture teacher, a protector of seeds, soil and life.
As we are writing, he is opening a new local seed library in the Japanese island of Kyushu.
He won’t stop until Japanese heritage seeds are safe, until people realize that seeds are the basis of everything, a treasure to be protected and cherished.
He has been growing organic food for 45 years and a couple of years ago, he founded “Seeds of Life Japan”.
Through this organization, he grows soil and seeds in different organic farms in Japan to produce food for sale in Farmers Markets and cafes in and around Tokyo. He holds organic growing workshops that encourage people to grow food in their own apartment, balcony garden or farm, as well as monthly seed exchanges and seed saving classes, etc.
Last year, together with his partner Nanako, they launched the fair “Organic Expo Japan” which was a great success with 20.000 people attending. The next Organic Lifestyle Expo will be held on July 29-30 2017 at the Tokyo International Forum.
Later this year, they'll also open their seed sharing catalog and organize urban farming and organic native seed marche in September 2017.
